I am new to jeeps and bought a 2015 Jku rubicon. It has the standard spare mounted on the tailgate which matches the aftermarket wheel set the previous owner added.

Crawling underneath, I find there is a second underneath the rear tub with a tire that's pretty worn.

Is it common to have that spare underneath. I'm thinking I'll remove it to save weight. Am I missing anything?

Thanks

I had a '15 Rubi and it did not have a second spare underneath. I think that if you check, the second tire would be on a nonstandard, added mount. It will also affect your ground clearance to some degree.

This. It's something the prior owner added. I can't think of a good reason to do so, but they did.
