Looking for real life feedback on highway towing with 3.73 gears

My '10 JK Sahara has the oem towing package which includes 3.73 gears. I don't care for them as I do only highway driving. I can't make any suggestions to you, as I'm interested in advice on gears that are more highway friendly.

    New JK

The 3.8 v6, is not by any definition the reliable workhorse that my 4.0 inline 6 was. However, it is not the later, total piece of junk that the 3.6 was. I think that the '10 Wrangler is underpowered, however I'll keep you posted. I am enjoying the sun, via the quickly removable Freedom...

    New JK

Hello Bill and Chris, I have purchased a red, 6 speed, '10 Sahara hardtop and am really enjoying those removable Freedom panels. The 6 speed TJ soft top has been a great ride for decades, however it was time for a change. Do I have to change my username from TJTony to JKTony? Regards, Tony

What mileage are you considering a "certain threshold"

No pixs that I can send. I will take some when I do a compression test, which should be this weekend.

Since I'm not looking for a conversion, your input interests me. I guess that the theory that Jeeps run 200-300k applies to the older straight six, not the newer v6.

There does not appear to be excess rust, just the typical surface stuff. JK appears to be in decent shape, so next step is to do a compression test. Thanx for replies.

JerryD: Thanx for reply. This JK seems to run well, though I have not yet performed a compression test on it. My TJ has the straight 6 and has been reliable. It has 134k on it and has not required any repair. I'm just looking for a newer rig.

MRJP, Thanx for reply and opinion. I remain leery of this many miles. Presently, I have an '05 TJ which is a great engine. I'm looking for something newer though.

Looking for opinions on a 2010 JK Sport

Thanx for the reply MacGuyver. Loosing oil through a leak is bad enough, I was referring to the engine actually burning the oil. I've heard that the JK's were serious oil burners.

I have heard that 3.8s are notorious oil burners. So bad in fact that Jeep recalled the '09 engines for replacement. Also that the electrical system is plagued with problems. Leaks are the third issue that I've heard.

Looking for opinions on a 2010 JK Sport

The JK that I am contemplating purchasing appears to be in good condition. However, I've heard so many negative reports about JKs, that I'm taking my time sealing the deal.

The JK that I am contemplating purchasing, has the 6 speed, which is the only tranny that I would consider purchasing.

Tim, Thanx for reply. The JK that I am contemplating has 141k on it, so I thought that most of the bugs would be worked out by that mileage.

Gentlemen, As the present owner of a TJ, I am contemplating the purchase of a 2010 JK Sport hardtop (Freedom top). 3.8 ltr with a 6 speed. Any current JK owners have any comments or insights into the 2010 JK Sport? Thanx, TJTony
