Thats probably what I am going to go with. I have seen videos where they get the camera right up and show one hand releasing the factory red clip and removing the connection. I cant even see it with the panels off! But i wont give up!

Pretty much what Anybodyhome said. The function of tongue weight has more to do with pulling capacity of a trailer than downward force only on the rear bumper.
Replace it. They are not repairable. I just did this in January. Do NOT get NAPA or aftermarket. They are cheap junk that hums loud on the 2 lower settings. I pulled the NAPA and got OEM. 2x the cost but worth it.
