that´s correct.... shorter wheelbase, relatively lightweight vehicle, and heavy trailer, are a recipe for disaster... i know i wouldnt tow a heavy load without trailer brakes and extra caution...

its not always about the pulling power, but the STOPPING power... jeeps lack gross weight to handle an emergency stop while towing a heavy load... i pull a 18ft bassboat with trailer brakes... when i disable the brakes, i can definitely notice it, and stopping takes a bit longer than without the...

thats a good starting point... i would add another set of clothing, including socks and shoes.. this is the clothing item i change the most, after a day of wheeling, specially if the trail has some mud and my feet get wet....

These are my 2 favorite camping mods... first one is a homemade tailgate table... the gas strut keeps it in place, as it pushed towards the tailgate.... since the picture i have added another strut on the other side.... And when it is deployed, the strut keeps the table in place... Now...

this would be the first step... "all the normal essentials" vary a lot from one another... my essentials include a shovel, rain gear, gloves, tools, headlamp, tarp, winch controller, extra shackle and snatch block, tow strap, multimeter.....

make sure you have rear recovery points... and NO, the ball for your trailer is not a good recovery point... you can remove the hitch, and put a recovery strap's eye inside the hitch receiver, using the pin to secure it. You can fit both eyes if you need a shorter strap .

not a JK, but my older Yj..... i fell into a ditch.... i called some friends and they winched me out... the only damage was a scratch in the hood...

thats the one im using with great results... another nice feature i have already used twice is increase idle rpms... i set it to 1400 for winching....

have you actually measured your tires??? about 3 weeks ago i purchased 315 70 17s, thinking they would be 34.4", as thats whats the online converters say... however, after installing, mine measure just a bit above 33.5"... i have stock 4.10 gears on an auto Sahara 07, and these do not feel...

i keep a Black Diamond Revolt headlamp in my jeep. It has rechargeable batteries, and the ability of being hands free is a big plus.
