2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus a 2010 Islander side project)

I’m not too worried about this one, though I did opt for the 72mo/72kmi warranty… It seems that the majority of the issues listed in Consumer Reports (and similar) are on the fancier model tech (like the Series III and GW). This one has the stuff we wanted (5.7 + 8HP75), but no crazy extra...

2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus a 2010 Islander side project)

Had a busy few days... been trying to get the PSC hose routing, as well as the radiator hoses figured out. Also came home with this on Friday. It's a 2022 Wagoneer Series 1. We went to look at the new Durango GT AWD Premium, which is currently on a killer 0% for 60-mo deal with Stellantis...

    3.8 misfire

Sorry, was busy and couldn't get back here to check for you... but yes, as you confirmed, it connects to firewall near the battery, then also to the hood.

    Anyone ever use this service?

Yup, that's essentially what it comes down to: pay a little for a one time (hopefully) service, or go with the more expensive options and be able to adjust as you need. Since yours is a 2015+, you'll be paying for, and sending in your ECM, to be unlocked. Historically, the advantage (or...

JKU Hemi Swap - Reference Guide & Swap Info

8HP70 Swap - Vent Line Option Sometimes finding a simple, OEM option is nice, even for just a vent hose... The vent nipple at the top of the 8HP70 is very close to the tub, so a straight hose coming off would just kink. I ordered this thinking it was a fully molded hose. Turns out, this isn't...

    Hellcat powered JKU

Seems clean and tastefully built... Compared to the cost of a new 392 JLU, it offers some advantages. If you could get this for ~$60-65, you'd be worlds ahead of a 392. On a side note, it's nice to see a Hellcat swap without cutting the cowl/firewall. Has me curious to know how they did...

    Wrangler beast mode!

And fixing this by going with a proper axle ratio will COMPLETELY change the feel and drivability even more so... there's not much worse in the automotive world than an improperly geared Jeep. I'd argue that there was only one Jeep that ever came from the factory with proper gearing, and that...

    Anyone ever use this service?

If you have a 2012+, you can program your ECM with a handheld tuner (like HPTuner), though the more common ECU interfaces (like JScan) cannot. I have never heard of the company above but this is commonly done with aftermarket tunes, so I can't imagine that they're a problem. What are you...

    285/75/17 on stock wheels? 315s?

I ran 285's on 4.75" BS wheels and they rubbed the inner fender and sway bar quite a bit at near-full lock (on a 2.5" MC Gamechanger). With factory wheels, you'll very likely have a considerable amount of rub, and potentially may hit the control arm too. They will be with 35"s or even heavy 33"s :)

    3.8 misfire

Since you had misfires on the same side, this was my first guess - so glad that you found it. The strap goes from the back of the block to the firewall near the battery, and also to the hood. I found a replacement for mine on Amazon.

2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus a 2010 Islander side project)

The Motobilt Rear Fuel Tank Kit arrives today, so over the weekend, I worked on getting it ready. The first step was getting the fuel filler neck removed and trimmed out. I was shocked that it could not be removed without lifting the tub. Since I don't need to "save" it, I simply cut it out...

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

Is that $200 to replace the OEM carrier? If so, and if warranted, you may want to consider going with something like a TrueTrac in the rear. It has better biasing, has no clutches to wear out, offers a good amount of strength increase, and is always "on", which is handy in wet weather and on...

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

How I see it, you really can't compare the 5 gears in the NAG1 directly to the first 5 gears of the 8HP70, at least not in any "apples to apples" attempt. Looking at differences in transmissions with a mismatching # of gears is better on a graph than a table, as you'd get to see the overlapping...

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

I wonder, if we were to ping the folks who bought a new Wrangler in late-2018/early-2019, particularly those deciding between leftover JK's or new JL's, if the transmission/drivability was a major influence to their decision. I remember my first JLU rental, it was a 2019 white Sahara with the...

2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus a 2010 Islander side project)

I ordered a set of cheap, eBay specials, catalytic converters for a later model Ram 1500 (up to 2019 it said in the listing). Since i don't have an exhaust shop close by, I'm going to have to make this work myself. Even if I only get a little bit of use out of these, if I can make something that...

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

Theirs looks sweet though, and is all "new", so perhaps the price is somewhat warranted, though I don't know if I'd pony up nearly $10,000 for just a transmission update, especially since a Hemi swap isn't that much more :)

The metal mounts or the rubber isolators? https://www.extremeterrain.com/jeep-wrangler-rear-body-mount-55366676ac.html would be the isolator.

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

I'm much more up to speed on the Hemi + 8HP70 swap, but I would guess much less than that... you can find 8HP's for dirt cheap (I bought two for $500 each) and the nice thing about their programming is that the are very much "self protecting", preventing unnecessary hard shifts, monitoring...

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

I was pissed and still make jokes as much as possible, that my wife wouldn’t buy the Overland WK2 we looked at the dealership with a 5.7L (it had a moonroof which hit my head unfortunately, and we needed a replacement somewhat quick to her recently wrecked Subaru). That said, her 3.6L is still...
