Post-off roading preventive inspection / maintenance

I treat my JKU fairly rough. Mostly crawling so cal trails. I did a easy ish trail over new year weekend, it was wet and slick. This week, I intended to install a pair of new trans coolers. Switch from one big fin and tube monstrosity to a pair of smaller stacked plate coolers. I crawled under...

JKU Hemi Swap - Reference Guide & Swap Info

What are the chances my 545rfe has 1/2” npt threads? I see some (what looks like) teflon tape hanging out. Usually, tape is used on taper threads like npt. The tube is confirmed 3/8” tube. OD is 0.0378”. Close enough considering dirt and oxidation

JKU Hemi Swap - Reference Guide & Swap Info

My 545rfe has the same M22/1.5 (metric ??) and the clip to hold the tube in. Do you know if the tube is metric or SAE? I am redoing the trans cooler lines as much as possible. The fin and tube cooler was blocking too much airflow, going with "stacked plate" type. I bought two 13 plate coolers...

JKU Hemi Swap - Reference Guide & Swap Info

do you know if JSS can make copies (backup tcm) of a already working tcm? I like to carry spares when off roading (kidding of course). These JK's have electrical gremlins. Most of my self repairs have been electrical of some sort.

    J8 booster talk

Mine works great. In fact it is a game changer. No issues with mine other than it being a pain to install. I think the install is where most trouble starts, plus the non oe parts. It was my understanding the J8 kit was not really a kit but an option for the military and government JKU's. The...

    J8 booster talk

It is tight for sure. Your idea of cutting the ABS tray to lower it would work. I added a few aluminum spacers under the module to raise it up "slightly" over the curve of the MC, still had to add a sleeve protector cause I did not feel happy about the way it laid on the sharp edge. Your idea is...

JK rear brakes - rotors and pads

    Seconded

What did you do to your JK today?

Did a small project that I hope has a good return. I put some air dams on the side of the radiator. The OE rubber dams were rotted and from the original radiator (has a big Ron Davis now) I have a slight heat problem when on the freeway and climbing. The new air dams are not as flexible and...

JKU Hemi Swap - Reference Guide & Swap Info

My swap was done before I owned it in 2009. How can I check if the top end has the MDS lifters?

When does this MDS tick usually rear it's head? I have 38K miles on the new engine.

JKU Hemi Swap - Reference Guide & Swap Info

I have about 2k since the last oil change. I will test at 3K. There is no noise after 180F. We have had a cold snap here in So cal. It has dropped to 50F at night, could be the culprit.

JKU Hemi Swap - Reference Guide & Swap Info

Ok, This issue started after my new trans install, they had to cut a bunch of the exhaust to R&R, so they may have left a little pinhole. The sound is under it feels like. Would an oil sample show a worn or wearing cam? I would think metal from the cam would show up.

JKU Hemi Swap - Reference Guide & Swap Info

Is the "hemi tick" cam issue tick always present or does it disappear after warm up? I have a "tick" at startup but is gone even before warm up, it is there for just about a minute, maybe less. It may be an exhaust pin hole leak too. not sure yet. Just scared at the moment LOL.

    Oil change and new ticking

Good to hear you will hang around a little. I have always appreciated your input and solutions. I am not as tall but probably a little wider. I had a CJ5 that I did a "wheel house" notch on and put a flaming river tilt column on it, still not enough. The JKU is better but still cramped. I did...

Electrical connector that dropped down from under dashboard

I think you nailed it. I have a maestro thingy hooked to my aftermarket kenwood head unit, it shows things like door ajar, water temp, rpm, etc. Pretty cool features. OP, if your aftermarket head unit (Pioneer) is fairly new, it is probably for that. Only used when you plug it into the port to...

JKU Hemi Swap - Reference Guide & Swap Info

Dark side convert completely. I sold it about 2 years ago. Could not reconcile not having a rock crawler, so I found my current rig. It was a rotisserie build in 2009 for the 2010 SEMA show by the owner of discount tire. It had 27k miles on it when it was done at a shop in Phoenix. The PCM has...

JKU Hemi Swap - Reference Guide & Swap Info

Great write up! Thanks for taking the time to detail this build. I bought a 2007 JKU with a HEMI swap already in it. I had no idea what I was doing. I just knew I wanted a Jeep that was 90% built already to avoid the severe losses I have endured over the last three builds. My build has a 345...

Need help with heat / debris cover for lines

The top link is a self closing shield, it could be used on each line, or the second link is a adhesive sheet, it could be wrapped around all the lines. Not sure what would be best. https://www.amazon.com/13mm-aluminized-protection-Harnesses-Automotive/dp/B09MVYN2YY/?tag=wranglerorg-20...

    Overheating at highway speeds

I know it's an old post, but I am having some issues on my Hemi swapped 2007 JKU. Crawling, trails, local runs, flat freeway, no issues. As soon as I start a freeway climb, temps go from 200 to 230 in just a few miles. I do have a cramped engine bay and a huge Warn powerplant mounted in front of...
