2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus an Islander side project)

Had a busy weekend - the Mrs. grand Cherokee just rolled over 100k miles and to thank me, it started to leak at a seam on the radiator… Thankfully, a new Mopar unit off eBay was relatively cheap (~$300) and quickly delivered. Swapping it out wasn’t as much of a nightmare as I was expecting...

    Suspension Recommendations

The AEV 2.5" lift is generally considered to be a nice-riding option, so I wonder if you have other issues at hand (overly stiff shocks for example). One thing I've noticed is that many people don't really understand how a 2-door Jeep drives (from a suspension standpoint), either because they're...

2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus an Islander side project)

Got the Dorman Clockspring installed, as well as the new turn signal, and although it no longer clicks when turning the wheel, and my turn signal actually stays locked during a turn, it did not fix the error with the ABS/Christmas lights. I'm about 98% sure it's the ABS module at this point in...

2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus an Islander side project)

That's basically what I'm seeing as well... I almost did it when I fixed the horn switch, but wanted to confirm that the switch was indeed the issue. I should have done it anyways. *Laughs in LJ ECM issues* Should arrive tomorrow if I can trust the UPS tracking #... with any luck, I'll have...

Eh, it's a 17 year old Jeep with 211,000 miles... bound to have some issues :)

2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus an Islander side project)

It's been a minute since I got to work on the Jeep. Since getting back from our trip and through the holidays, it's just been busy... I did run into a slight issue with the Jeep. During one of the snow storms, I was coming up my steep and freshly covered driveway. It caused the traction control...

    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

As I see it, most of the guys I've seen running 40"s, heck even 37"s (and in some cases 35"s!!!) aren't doing trails hard enough to warrant 37"s (or 40"s), and by extension, aren't doing trails hard enough to damage axles/housings. On the other hand, there are plenty of examples of guys...

2010 JKU "OLJEEPY" LS Swap Build Thread

If you're not changing parts you've already changed 3 times, are you really building a Jeep??? lol - seems to be how I build mine too, even with good planning! :ROFLMAO:

2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus an Islander side project)

Picked up a set of lightly used MetalCloak control arms - figured I’d have a spare set that I could keep ready to go, then swap out as needed during the recommended yearly maintenance and greasing… The first arm I took apart gave me fits - stripping one of the joints: I literally had to stand...

Getting back into the swing of things post vacation… Finally - FINALLY - got all the welding done on the Artec truss and brackets. I always get self-conscious posting my welds, but then I remember that these are the welds posted on Artec’s page… 😂🤣 Next up: throwing some paint on the...

    203 degree thermostat?

It’s all about the design. Most cast-iron blocks do best in the 195-205° range. Aluminum blocks, aluminum heads, phenolic intakes, etc. do add some variables to that, but generally, all gas burning engines typically operate in a ~20° range of each other (note that water jacket temps aren’t...

    203 degree thermostat?

Why "should it be" 180°? Engines are designed to run at a particular temperature, balancing latent heat, compression, efficiency, etc. OEM is 203° and is what I would stick with. Lower temperature thermostats only regulate the MINIMUM operating temperature, not the maximum anyways.

Found them after all… Apparently these are called "Super Jeeps", even if they aren't "Jeeps". Some other cool Icelandic rigs and just general cool trucks during my visit: I need to do some reading up on wheeling up there. Some things are a little off from what I was expecting. For...

2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus an Islander side project)

Well that answers the question of “what would I drive if I moved to Iceland?”… Lots of cool rigs here in Iceland, but the one I’m most jealous of are the diesel Land Cruisers: Not many Jeeps here. In fact I’ve only seen one, a JK Rubi on stock tires and wheels. There is a Suzuki Jimmy, what...

2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus an Islander side project)

The last of the parts I've been waiting for have arrived... I'll get to regear the 14B as soon as I'm done with the axle brackets. I ended up going with the Richmond Powertrax Grip Pro. It's comparable to the TrueTrac, which I've used plenty over the years. There was a decent price savings...

2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus an Islander side project)

Had a quiet afternoon with a few cancelled meetings, so I decided to get the truss at least tacked in place to make me feel better… I set the pinion angle to 7° based on seeing nearly every person say that this was about perfect for a 14B on 3.5-4.5” springs. From there, I leveled the the...

I was just having this conversation with a friend... "snow driving" means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. It also means different things to the same person, depending on circumstances. True "snow tires" are ones with specific sipping and compounds for use in the snow and...

How do I fold the seat down on a 08 JKU?

Glad you figured it out… a reminder, the head rests fold back when the seat is laid down. I’ve seen some people (cough cough my daughter) try to make them fold forward as they put the seat down. It doesn’t work lol…

2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread (plus an Islander side project)

The studs I ordered finally arrived, two days late but just ahead of the storm. As you can see, the 610-194’s most closely match the original M14 wheel studs, but in 9/16” thread: The 610-359, which many on Pirate4x4 said was their stud of choice, would appear to work as well, but is really...
