What goes here between the rear fender and the rear bumper?

Just take it out on a trail a couple of times. Pretty is temporary. So is finish. Remember Jeeps were invented to be broken.

Coolant leak and flushing radiator questions

First, look up exactly what coolant type your engine requires. Do not mix types!!! Doing so creates a gel (I guess that's what you would call it) that will thoroughly stodge up your system and engine. There are two types and HOAT and OAT. Do not blend them, or mix them with water unless...

Coolant leak and flushing radiator questions

That is certainly what that looks like. The geometry of the leak looks like it developed after the vehicle was parked, may just after a trip while the engine was still hot. If that's the reservoir on the right, then it looks like your coolant is low too.

2011 JK Rubicon has death wobble at 45-55 MPH

If it is a real death wobble, the typical causes are loose fittings in the suspension. According to some sources the commonest cause is a loose attachment of the lower end of the track bar to the axle. The attachment there can be just lose - under-torqued, or it could be worn in several ways...

Do I need a steering stabilizer?

WIth no recovery it sounds like you were essentially driving without a stabilizer anyway.

Do I need a steering stabilizer?

The stabilizer allows you to relax a little more when on the highway. It increases the "reliability" of steering effects by dampening the wheels' response to paving irregularities. If you hit a pothole for instance, you'll often feel the steering wheel push left or right depending on how the...

    Looking for rim suggestions.

The centercaps on the Saltas are metal. They would ding up too. But we are driving off road, so "pretty" is mostly temporary.

    Looking for rim suggestions.

My 2016 Rubicon had AEV Saltas on it when I got it. They look good, though the black coating is prone to dings if you get too cozy to rocks beside the trail. They also have recessed stems, which is also good around rocks and brush. They're spendy though. The ones on mine were added by a...

What did you do to your JK today?

Western Nevada, Pine Grove Hills, near the Wovoka WIlderness. The day before smoke from the Mosquito fire made things miserable, but over night things cleared out.

What did you do to your JK today?

Took a fairly short overnight jaunt. Picked up a little pin striping. Beautiful weather at 8,000 feet.

    Ticking after oil change

The 3.8 has a bit of a reputation regarding oil. The ticking though sounds like a rocker bearing might be at the end of its life. You might take a stethoscope and listen along the valve cover and see if you can locate where it's loudest. If you can, then you need to decide who replaces the...

    Emissions not reporting

California isn't particularly difficult. The test looks at outputs of a couple of gases (CO, and NO2 - and maybe a sulfur compound???) and whether you are leaking gas fumes from the gas tank (new gas cap indicated). CO is an indication of incomplete combustion, so you don't want any in your...

Ideas for preventing bugs on the windshield

I never found any solution. There is a stretch on US 97 south of Klamath Falls which can get so bad at certain times of the year that you stop every couple of miles. Actually a visibility issue after two hours is not bad as far as driving through agricultural regions goes. Maybe carry an...

How do I turn ECO mode off?

By model I really meant "Sport," "Sahara," "Willys," ... You don't have a "Menu" button on the steering wheel. Looking at my manual, which is for the 2016 Wranglers, the "STEP" button on your wheel should allow to you find, and switch between fuel average mileage, and "ECO." Since it is only...

How do I turn ECO mode off?

There's no "Eco" mode. That simply tells you that you are not burning gas at a higher rate than your wallet would like. You are driving economically. Just a message. For curiousity's sake which model JK are you driving?

Jeep Wrangler JKU with 3.5" lift hard to keep straight on the highway

There is a lot of good advice here. My very first thought though, with any significant lift, is to look at the parallelism between the track bar and the drag link. They should be pretty close to parallel, and stay that way as the jeep rocks and sways on turns. If they aren't close to...

Looking for hard top lift strut suggestions

You might just try the OEM struts. They lift high enough for me to more around. Of course I'm only 6 2.

    New Jeep!

Nice looking ride. The "garbage" thing is largely nonsense. Every vehicle has its oddities and idiosyncracies, and reputations carry over from year to year regardless of changes made. The chief "fix" is simply regular maintenance and inspections. Wranglers are inclined to get more banged...
