    Thoughts about Gladiator towing capacity

#1 reason. I don't like going slow. The tow rating is more about the chassis and suspension. The JK is rated to tow 2,000 lbs. The JKU 3,500 lbs. The Gladiator 7,000. They can absolutely do that. But the rating is based on how much weight before things start to break. Being able to tow the load...

    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

Nice work. What prompted the swap? Did you break something on the OEM axle? The reason I ask is because I've found a TON (see what I did there) of people running 40's on JL Rubicons like mine. No problems, even with the 392. Which makes me think our JK will be fine.

    Gascap light

I'd agree. I don't think you're going to be able to buy just the neck. And if you can, you'll have to epoxy it in place. So it makes sense to repair it. Be generous with the epoxy.

JKU 1.9L TDI swap: Is it possible?

It's absolutely possible. But if I was doing an engine swap in a 5,000 lb vehicle that is less aerodynamic than your average cow, it wouldn't be a 90HP, 150 lb/ft engine. You'll need a calendar to track your 0-60 time.

    120VAC inverters on the trail

I think those are optional now. ;P

    120VAC inverters on the trail

I don't know how you define "newer", but Mrs. Dogs 2011 has an OEM inverter. I googled it. The OEM inverter is 150W, so it's not going to run a cooler, but it'll power lights, hair driers, that sort of thing. Curiosity satisfied.

    120VAC inverters on the trail

As someone who never uses them... how do these compare to the OEM inverter?

What did you do to your JK today?

Planning a brief trip to the Grand Canyon and Moab in February, If anybody is going to be in Moab the 15th-17th, hit me up. I don't have everything planned yet, but we are tentatively planning on running Fins & Things, Hells Revenge, and Top of the World, at least.

Could you see yourself driving this JKU?

    That's not a Jeep. That's a circus wagon.

    Simple Lift Question

Pretty much any quality shock. You're likely to replace them again when you install an actual lift, as opposed to pucks. I'm partial to King shocks, personally.

    Simple Lift Question

Yes, you can upgrade the shocks. No, it's not going to change the lift. Springs change lift.

How to install a smart mirror in your JK Wrangler

That would certainly work. So does a small screwdriver. I use plastic to avoid damage to the trim, but if you're careful there's no reason metal wouldn't work just as well.

    Anti-skid warning light?

Doesn't take much. There's a road I travel regularly that has an excessive amount of crowning. You have to keep a little pressure on the wheel or you will drift over. That's enough to trigger it.

LED low beam headlights too bright for oncoming traffic

I think this is commonly a problem with aftermarket bumper lights. They often cannot be aimed.

    Trip planning

Mrs Dog has a birthday coming up in February and I'm planning a trip. She wants to see the Grand Canyon and Moab. We've been to Moab before, but spent most of out time in Arches. I'm looking for favorite trail recommendations. The one caveat is that Mrs. Dog does NOT like shelf roads. It's the...

LED low beam headlights too bright for oncoming traffic

They're not too bright. They're not aimed properly.

    5 quarts of oil?

It's pretty simple to figure out if it's the dipstick. Measure it. It should be 15.13", according to google.

    Is this the correct coolant?

I think we've probably all used tap water when circumstances required. I'd still use it if it were the only option. But you're absolutely going to need to either flush the system soon, and wonder why in the world your engine is overheating when all the passages are gunked up.

Going For Build #2 on My 2012 JK

To be fair, an LS is just as likely to have problems as any other engine. But don't let that stop you. Your best bet, if you're new to this sort of thing, is one of the "all in" LS swap kits available. You'll get the engine, transmission, transfer case, mounts, and all the wiring and computers...

    Is this the correct coolant?

It doesn't really matter if it's oat, as long as you're not mixing types. Last time I did a JK, It took (if memory serves) about 2.5 gallons. I would question the competence of a dealer who tells you to use water in your coolant system. The minerals in tap water tend to build up in the system...
