But most things electronic will give you a CEL, so need to check things that wouldn't give a CEL. Like grounds, bad battery cables, clamps, run another ground to the engine from battery.

Sometime when it happens you should try checking the key start wire on the starter to see if it's getting power when someone tries to start it.

Does the little red dot in the upper right side of the dash cluster come on when this happens?

Is your oil pressure low? Just my opinion if you spent the money to replace the lower bearings the rings would then get worn out before the new set of bearings did. Unless the bearings had alot of wear I probably wouldn't.

The gas smell could be a injector issue. When was the last time it was tuned up?

Do you still have the junk Factory battery clamps? Have you ran another ground from the battery to the engine? Bad grounds can cause alot of electrical headaches.

Do you know if your speedometer isn't reading accurate? Have you checked it with a GPS? You just need to get a OBII tool that can make changes to your Jeep, most will use JScan.

If someone has changed the tires to a taller size and doesn't recalibrate their speedometer it will mess with the transmission's shifting.
