That makes sense for you since you opened up the exhaust side. The OEM throttle body may have been the next choke point. Doubtful that it would've made a difference on an otherwise stock engine and exhaust system.

You wouldn't have a throttle body on a non-fuel injected (ie. Carb'ed) engine so there's that... 😀 In all seriousness the only reason for a spacer is to provide real estate for mixing gases (PCV, EGR, Purge). In that respect they do "work" but there is no reason to add one if it wasn't there...

Depending where you are at there are lots of deals around here (SE MI) on take off wheels and tires. For instance, you could get 285/70R17 Wildpeaks or BFGs on Rubicon wheels for $800-$1000. Some include all 5... Then sell your OEM 18s and recoup some of the cash. Just an option.
