Turning off the center console USB port

i would never just leave the phone on the charger all the time ??? But the holder does draw power while it is plugged in and has an LED on it. As I don't drive it for months i don't want any parasitic draw. I thought this was a simple yes/no question as to if the power outlet could be set to ignition only and not on all the time, But I guess it got side tracked. :):ROFLMAO: I have my answer, Thank you all, and I have my solution.

LOL: gee never even thought of that. Just kidding. It is a pain to open the console, take out the tray, fish down to find the plug and pull it out. Then have to do the reverse to turn it back on. Where the holder is mounted it is about the same pain to unplug it. So a simple switch solves all the issues.

A USB port, just like an unused electrical outlet in your house, does not draw electricity until the circuit is closed (plugging something into the outlet or plugging the phone into the port. Even leaving a USB cord in the port will not close the circuit. The phone closes the circuit and draws the electricity, not the cord.

I've had a USB cord plugged into my head unit for several years. It has stronger amperage draw than the port located inside the console, I believe, and will charge your phone faster than the inside port.

The quickest phone chargers are those with the higher amperage. A 45W plug-in charger is about the best you can get, but I think I've seen some 60Ws out there. It would be a quicker phone charge to plug a 45W phone charger into the 115VAC outlet in the Jeep.

For me it it was just a matter of seeing someone taking time to do something that isn’t necessary. Plus just a place for some electrical thing to go haywire.
