Trunk latch is stuck

The trunk latch on my 2018 JKU was malfunctioning, it wouldn't hold closed either locked or unlocked. I purchased a replacement and installed it today, now the door latches but the locking mechanism doesn't respond to the key fob to lock or unlock and if I lock it manually using the key then it won't open again when I manually unlock.

Clearly I probably missed something when swapping out the latch assembly. Does anyone have suggestions on what may be wrong and how to fix it?

Sounds defective to me. It should lock / unlock manually with the key. I guess only other option is there an adjustment on it? Might have too much pressure on it from the weight of the tailgate if there is an adjustment. But I think that is a long shot. Easy way to tell is open the tailgate and lock / unlock and see if it works as it’s supposed to.

Before you assume it's broken, consider just how many different bits need to be aligned just right for the lock and latch to function properly. While it's certainly possible to have a bad brand new product, I'd start by adjusting it.

First step would be to cycle the lock and latch with the tailgate (you don't have a trunk...) open. If it functions properly when open, it is almost certainly a matter of getting the various bits and pieces aligned properly. There are only 17,189 adjustments (slightly less than the number of grounds you have to trace for electrical gremlins) so it shouldn't take long...

Hey Jon so here's a quick way to reset you key fob with the new lock ..it seem like it's not communicating
