I have a 2015 Jeep JK unlimited. I was worried, so I just had a radiator flush performed at the shop and I'm still experiencing the same issue. Under normal load/freeway driving, the temp gauge is rock steady at center. As I climb a grade on the freeway and it downshifts to higher RPM's, the temp goes up to 3/4 hot super quick. As soon as I plateau, drive flat, go downhill within seconds it drops back down to rock steady center. I know the temperature swings in the coolant isn't that quick so I'm just puzzled as to why this happens. Should I even be worried since it always practically immediately drops back to rock steady center? Thanks so much!

I would make sure your electric fan is going to high speed. Also did you change tire size? Before I re-geared my axles my JKU did the exact same thing. I also removed a couple LED lights that were mounted on the bumper when I bought the jeep. I feel like too much stuff up front disrupts the airflow into the radiator.
Nice ride! I did a bunch of troubleshooting. I never did get a code reported on the OBDII port. First, I replaced the engine coolant sensor. That didn't have any impact on the gauge reading high temps when downshifting up a hill. So then, I just straight up replaced the thermostat. Cost me $20 for it, and took relatively little effort. I bled the line of air, and took it for a test drive.
Result - rock solid middle of the gauge reading, regardless of RPM's. It would appear the thermostat was the root cause, as it simply wasn't opening up and operating as it should.
