Is it normal to have a lot of engine heat in driver's side interior?

First time Jeep owner. 09 2dr manual. Feeling engine heat around my feet and legs from up under the dash and was wondering if this was normal. It's not the heater...at least I don't think it is as I'm running the A/C.
Still getting used to all the "Jeep idiosyncrasies". Thanks.

I wouldn’t think it is normal. Maybe if there is seal or something missing heat may come through.

I wonder if someone removed a rattling heat shield?
All the heat shields (above the exhaust under the floor and on the firewall) are intact. I should clarify that I'm only feeling it at highway speeds coming from under the dash and steering column. Maybe there's a pass-thru in the firewall I don't see. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Are the carpets removed? The floors do get hot. I ripped all the carpet out of mine and found some warning stickers underneath about that so they do expect some amount of heat in that area.

No, in fact I've also have a carpet floor mat so that's double the insulation. But the heat's not coming from the floor, rather it's from under the dash and steering column area.
I wonder if the heater core is more exposed to the interior than it should be. I've seen heater core shut offs on older vehicles (not jeeps) for similar reasons. Mind, I don't advocate doing this.

You could as a temporary experiment short out the heat core lines so they don't flow through the core, but just back to the engine.

Interesting. I don't know if the heat is coming into the passenger compartment as it's just me and I haven't had anybody ride with me yet. I did wonder if perhaps a bypass door or something was not working right and allowing heat and A/C to come through at the same time but I only feel the heat at highway speeds so....I don't know.

It's really the primary thing that would allow engine heat to get into the cab. I imagine that at speed, there is higher air pressure on the system that can push air past the core and other seals that are not as good after over a decade.

Did a bunch of driving today including Interstate speeds and did not notice any heat. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Still getting a blowtorch on my right foot at high speeds from time to time. Noticed that the driver's side exhaust manifold shield has broken loose nearest the firewall. I've got it in the shop to have the body lift removed. They couldn't find any holes or anything in the firewall and the steering column shaft looks good. They're going to replace the manifold shield so we'll see if that improves things. I may look at getting a vented hood. They look cool and may keep the engine bay cooler. Always something else to buy, eh? 💸💸💸

Ok, this has been solved. Driver's side exhaust manifold heat shield was replaced and it's all good now.

The duct behind your glove compartment might have come loose or has fallen
