How does the Jeep know to turn the dome light on?

The wire bundle in my 2008 JKU Rubicon has two yellow/white wires and I have tried both without success (passenger side). Contemplating next steps. Maybe try the driver's side bundle? Thanks.
 
The wire bundle where I got the wire from is at the corner of the firewall and passenger side footwell. The bundle of wires is about 1" diameter.
 
I’ve attached a picture to this post. I am connecting the LED wire leads to the yellow/white wire and grounding the LED strip to the local ground post on the outside fender wall (just to the right of the bundle). You can see my nick marks on the wire. Thanks for the help.

I got the footwell lights installed - finally. I ended up tapping in to the dome wires over the back seats and ran wire under the carpet to all areas where I wanted LEDs. I even added one to the glovebox.

What color wire did you tap into?
