    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

I hit a few local spots in new england but nothing serious. I’m hoping to hit windrock around gsmji with the bleepin jeep crew and a few other friends but we’ll see how things pan out. Fuel is brutal expensive right now.

    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

The baja boss MT’s are my favorite tire so far. They weigh about the same as my 38” nitto’s and seem to grip better as well. Some people say they are prone to sidewall failures but I haven’t seen any personally even with the sticky compound. When I eventually go up to 42’s I’ll probably grab...

    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

Most recent upgrades included a 1/2” leveling puck up front to remove the factory rake as well as iron rock offroads trail tamer hydro bumpstops up front. Over a year later and she still rides like a dream. I can confidently hit 80+ mph without any issues.

    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

Took her out a few times this last year and started gathering parts for the next phase of the build which will be a 10” rear axle stretch. The rear will be going to coilovers and a double triangulated 4 link. The front will get a 3 link long arm and will be staying on coils and shocks for the...

    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

Took her for her first drive. It feels different for sure but very planted and solid going down the road. Barely got the jeep out the door because of the soft top bow but what can you do. Front driveshaft shows up monday as well as the powertank and pneumatic switches to run the lockers. I’m...

    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

The JK can survive on 38-39’s decently and I’ve seen 40’s but the weak link for me is the set 10 bearings that are in the rear axle. There is a company that makes a full float kit for the rear which shores up the last weak link but I didn’t know about that until I’d already started the swap...

    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

Finally got a chance to get the axles swapped out and some new wheels and tires for the new bolt pattern. She’s sitting in her own weight with a set of fresh 40” mickey thompson baja boss DOT’s on dirty life mesa beadlocks. Just need to bleed the brakes, swap out the front driveshaft, and route...

    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

Nvm I just looked it up. I’m going with a line lock for a parking brake setup since I’ve had so many issues with my factory parking brake.

    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

got the unit bearings installed as well as the warn locking hubs. Other than brakes and steering linkages they're good to go! Its wild to see how they originally showed up and what they look like now side by side.

    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

Little update on the axles, I’ve got both front and rear gears and lockers installed, tone rings installed on the hubs and rear rebuilt. The front currently has knuckles held on with the ball joint deletes waiting on hardware for the unit bearings then the shafts, unit bearings, and locking hubs...

    Junkyard 1-ton swap!

The truss I did slowly and bounced around doing different areas to keep from getting 1 spot too hot. The center section got pretty hot because you need to heat the cast to get a solid weld between cast and mild steel. Welding the truss on a 44 with it installed and weight on it i’d be concerned...

First Jeep, tell me where to start

It’s certainly not ideal and I was right there with you for a time although I had 3.73’s and a manual so it was more manageable but gears are a big investment and you really want to know what size tires you plan to run before regearing if at all possible.

First Jeep, tell me where to start

I don’t agree. Gearing is important but isnt 100% a requirement immediately. The driveshaft if you go above 2.5” I agree is accurate but the majority of people doing their first lift will be to fit 35” tires and only requires 2.5” lift. I ran my stock driveshafts from day 1 til I was on 37’s and...
