Sorry if this sounds dumb, but I am used to older Jeeps. Does the 08 Wrangler X Sport 2 door use DRBIII? If not what do I need to access the computer?

I mean for changing things?

No worries about asking questions, my friend.

We have in the family an 08, 09, 12, 13 & 16. All are OBDII vehicles and I have used the JScan app and AppCar DiagFCA (pc software) with Bluetooth and wired dongle to check and change things.

I recommend both and the JScan site has a listing of obd dongle that are known to work and known to avoid.

For the price, it's one of the best sets (app & dongle) tools you can buy.

JScan will change quite a few settings from what i've heard.

Also there are no dumb questions on this Forum not everyone knows everything and we're all here to learn. Other Forums you might get bashed for asking a question to learn but not here.

which adapter would y'all recommend? I need one that will write as well as read. My only alternative is matco for $400 per dongle.

Go to their site. They have a whole list of dongles that work with their product (and ones that are known NOT to work).

I have the OBD Link LX that works great with my phone, but is a little pricier than other options. The iCar Pro Bluetooth LE is $30 on Amazon. I have used mine to enable features like the backup camera when I had the stock radio, enable the auto headlights, change the tire size, change the DRL's, adjust the TPMS sensitivity, and activate various things (just because) like the windshield washer, door locks, etc. It does save the settings you configure. I've also used it to see the wheel speed values when I had a bad sensor and I could tell which sensor it was, saving time & aggravation in troubleshooting.
