Does anyone have any thoughts on how to make sure your insurance pays what they should? I had an unfortunate encounter with a deer. Front bumper, fender and paint along the side are damaged. I plan to install better fenders & possibly a new front bumper. Since adjusters work for the insurance co. How can I know if the dollar amount is fair? Jeep is paid off. Thanks

just tell them that you only have liability and it will be paid by your self no insurance involved

I am very very good friends with my insurance agent. That makes it super easy. 😂
I have a policy that is full coverage + 15k in upgrades (it was only 7 dollars more a month). He just asked me to keep all my receipts and if i was to ever get involved in an accident, he would take care of it. It pays to have relationships with certain people.

Did you go to a Body Shop and get a Estimate on the damage? That's the best way to know.
This is what you will need to do in your situation. Also, what @mrjp said. They give discounts to the insurance companies, so to get the highest payout, go and ask them what the out the door cost would be for you then give that estimate to your insurance. They should write you a check.

I have the same coverage with 15k. Worth it.

I’ve worked in insurance for 31 years. If a company is trying to nickel and dime you over a few hundred or even a few thousand dollars then you have the wrong insurance company. Regardless of what you see on TV or read reputable insurance companies pay their claims very timely and fairly. They deal with millions or even billions of dollars and aren’t trying to rip you off of $500. Now if you had things like aftermarket parts that were not listed on the policy that could be an issue but to be made whole is not.

I talked to a couple of body shops. It seems they want to get their hands on every penny of the insurance money. I’ve explained that I plan to upgrade the fenders myself. They acted like I was being mean and hurt their feelings. They haven’t been easy to deal with. Any suggestions?

Will your adjuster cut you a check as opposed to just paying the body shop directly? That would allow you to do your upgrades first then take it to them.
