Fender light mod: Like it or not?

Before I drill the holes, pls. help me decide my fender lights mod if it's a good idea or not.
Plastic side fender is so huge like a sled. I had this light idea for a year now but cannot pull the trigger.

The old "Spartan" Jeeps in the '40's - they had them lights on top of the fender.

Toyota stole them in the 80's

and now the new Mercedes Benz G-500 Series got them

and so.. I came up with this >
