Running a 2015 jk with 2.5 lift and black rhino sprocket 17”rims -18 offset 4.5 backspace. Need to get new tires and want to upgrade to BF Goodrich 35 KM3. My question is can I do this with the oem tire carrier or do I need to beef it up? Will eventually change out rear bumper to one with built in tire carrier but one step at a time. Any other issues I may not be thinking about as well?

That's alot of weight for the factory carrier. With the money you would spend to beef up the factory one you could have a good start on a aftermarket bumper with a carrier since that sounds like what you want.

It can be done but your rear door hinges will take a beating and fail. Unless you're not opening the rear door till you get a new bumper with carrier? I have the Smittybilt HD rear tire carrier holding a 37x12.50r17 and even with the HD carrier I feel like its sketchy to open. Dependig where you live, You'll also need the 3rd brake light extension or a spare tire brake light ring to be legal.

Scottkl,
I have 35s on a stock carrier and yes they will fit barely, it just touches the bumper, and the 3rd brake light shows over the top. I agree with the others that it is a lot hanging off the back, but I am doing the same as you, with just having put the 35s on and waiting till fall to put bumper and tire carrier on.
