The primary change over the years for JK hard tops was around 2011 the rear window was made bigger. You can tell an older top from a newer one by looking at the rear window. If the window is the same width as the tailgate, it is an older model. If it is wider than the tailgate, it is a newer model.
The other difference is that the newer tops have two extra guide pins toward the rear near where the top gets bolted to the jeep. Older Jeeps don't have holes for these pins, and the pins are annoying to remove.. at least when you discover their existence as you are putting on the top for the first time by yourself.
I'm unsure what year the tops changed. 2010 was when the soft tops changed, so perhaps it was the same for the hard tops.
Regardless, it will work, but you may need to do a slight modification.
