Wandering steering

If your pinion angle / caster angle is off you can have steering issues as well. This is the primary reason for the adjustable control arms. This image shows how to measure caster with respect to the pinion. There is more to it, but with what sounds like an extreme case of something wrong, you may be able to just look and see if it is close. If the top ball joint is in front of the bottom one you probably have found your issue.

PS: I'm just ignoring the steering box issue you seem to be having and giving you something to look at. With adjustable control arms you already have the parts to correct a caster issue.
