I am little confused, are saying the transmission goes into neutral or the transfer case is slipping into neutral? The transfer case would need to pass 4H before reaching neutral and requires a little bit of a shift to the passenger side to hit neutral. If the transfer case is slipping into neutral I’d assume the TC isn’t in the same position as the lever / linkage. I’d remove the linkage make sure the TC is in 2WD position then reattach the linkage. But get it fixed before going off- road or it will be a pain.
