Trailer hitch length

Should I be looking for an extended trailer hitch to tow a trailer with a JK having the rear tire mounted on the tailgate? Standard tire, 235/85/16 2013 JK 2dr.

You shouldn't need one like that.

I don't think you should need an extended hitch either, though technically that would work.

I find it depends on what I am towing and if I will need to open the gate. Towing my boat will require an extended hitch to open the gate. My utility trailer in its current configuration does not. My small luggage trailer also doesn’t require it.
