I'm thinking about possibly painting my stock rims on my 2012 unlimited sport black. I have seen a lot of people doing it online with plastidip paint. I'm a newer wrangler owner so I'd appreciate any tips and recommendations.

Don't waste your time or money on that plasticdip junk. Do it right the first time. Powder coating is more durable than a rattle can.

I like PlastiDip because you can see what it looks like first, and if you don't like it, you can easily remove it.

However, if you're sure you'll like it, definitely have them painted.

DO NOT powder coat aluminum wheels, it can damage the metal. Factory and aftermarket aluminum wheels are not powder coated, they are painted with a automotive paint gun just like you'd paint a car.

I PlastiDipped the wheels on my my first Jeep and was really happy with the results. It lasted until I upgraded the wheels over a year later. Quite a few options for colors as well.

You may want to look into plastic wheel covers. I know it may sound a bit cheesy, however I happen to see a JK with black wheels, thought they looked pretty nice, when I asked about them I was told they were plastic covers. I was very surprised on how nice they look.

My 2014 sport (may it rest in peace) came with plastic covers for the stock 16" rims. They looked just like the base wheels but those silver steel wheels paint chipped often. I used them to test paint colors... black.. just go black. it's a jeep.
