Has anyone put 6.5 inch subwoofers in the soundbar? I'm not using an amplifier so it would be whatever wattage the head unit is putting out. I have a Kenwood DMX7706S head unit. Specs say the head unit has a built in amplifier 22 watts RMS/50 peak x 4 channels. My thinking is there are tweeters and midrange speakers on the dash, so there should be subs to handle the lower frequencies. Any thoughts on this?

Someone might know better but I don’t think you could drive a sub the way it should be driven without an external amp. I mean it should work but would sound muddy.

I was looking at some 400 watt subwoofers. That's not a high wattage sub compared to some.

I personally wouldn't do it. Full range speakers are best in the sound bar, plus you're not going to get as much bass out of a 6" sub as you would a bigger one and issues with tuning of the enclosure. I would put a sub under the seats or in the back.
I recently installed an 8" Fosgate powered sub in the back cargo area. Sounds good and easy.

Install decent quality speakers in the soundbar and dash and you pretty much lose the need for a sub. I'm actually going to consider permanently removing mine- I have the sidewall mounted version in my 2014- if my system sounds good enough once I get the dash speakers done.
Just like this guy and the subwoofer delete kit:

You could go TJ for it and install a sub in your center console. Look up a 1997 to 2006 wrangler subwoofer for ideas.

That being said, I think a sub without an amp is going to sound like crap.
