Steering wheel paddle switches

I just purchased a 2012 Wrangler 2 door Sport. It didn't come with an owners manual so I'm just working through things as I figure them out. I've located two paddle switches in the front and on each side side of the steering wheel. Can someone please enlighten me on their function?

You can buy adapters for aftermarket headunits so that you can reuse or sometimes reprogram those buttons. I love having those controls at my fingertips.
