Bought a used Wrangler a few weeks ago, after driving it for awhile, noticing a few consistent patterns and don’t know where to start looking and wondering if they could be related. Maybe something electrical? TIA

  • Radio goes in and out. works for a bit then sounds like it loses connection because we get no sound at all when it happens
  • Cruise control won’t always turn on
  • Tire pressure alert comes on and goes off without changing tire pressure

I agree with the above. This sounds like an electronic issue you may want a shop to diagnose.

However, is it currently showing any lights on the dash or throwing any error codes? If so, what are they?

Thanks for the responses, not currently showing any other lights errors on dash

Factory Radio
After Market tires

Had the tire sensor issue with another car that had after market tires on it and I’ve read issues with stock radio is standard

just trying to get confidence on risk and how concerned I should be versus dealing with the nuisances for now

Have you ever cleaned all your grounds, first thing to do when having electrical issues.

Also this was a used Jeep and I am assuming you have no knowledge of the P.O's and what they've done to it in the past. Possibly someone had another HU in it and cut the wiring harness up. Then when they traded it or sold it, they spliced it all back together without soldering or proper care? If you remove the radio from the dash, check to see if some other P.O. didn't use a plug-in harness kit and "hacked" it all up, it would be good to know what you're up against. I have seen all kinds of things as a former shop owner and electronics specialist, if it were mine, I'd want to know.

Does the JK have any warranty left on it or is there a guarantee from the outfit you bought it from against it being a lemon out of the gate? Check to see what they say but first and foremost, I would check the harness behind the radio in the dash for Prior Owner tampering and that the plugs to the back of the radio are all seated properly, not coming out or half unplugged.
