Hey all,

Had a few questions regarding lifting my stock 09 Rubicon. I had heard that Rubicons come stock with a 1 inch lift, and the goal is to get it to a 1 /34 inch to 2 inch lift to get 33 inch tires under it without compromising the ride quality. A friend of mine is doing a 1 3/4 spacer kit on their 17 Rubicon for 35 inchers, and recommended I do the same with mine.

What I'm trying to figure out is how the conversions add up. Is a 1inch spacer kit, when combined with the assumed 1 inch Rubicon lift, enough to bring me to 2 inches? Will the 1 3/4 spacer kit bring me up to 2 3/4 or just make my jeep a 1 3/4 lift total?

Thanks in advance!

On my front I have 9 5/8 and the last 2 numbers on the tag is 18 on the fronts, You probably have the longer heavier coils.

Rubicon's come with a stock lift? Not to my knowledge, no.

To run 33s and maintain stock up-travel from the suspension (which is important), you'll need a 2" or 2.5" lift. The best way to do this if you don't want to compromise ride quality is not a spacer. The correct way is new springs and new shocks. Even if you add a 2" spacer, you'd still need new shocks, so you'd just be lazy not to put new springs in as well.

Spacers are a poor man's way of lifting a Jeep. If you can avoid them, please do.

Spend the money on a 2.5" suspension lift and do it right. If you plan on keeping the vehicle a long time, you'll be happy you did.

That actually answers a lot of questions I had, thanks! I had heard that any lift over 2" would reduce ride quality? Couple of my friends were looking at doing spacers/ leveling kits, stating that they had friends that did the same that were very happy with them which is why I was looking into those in the first place. I'm looking to remove the factory rake as well, is there anything I need to look out for when searching for a 2" kit besides the shocks and spacers to accomplish that?

Only select special edition rubicons come with a very small lift compared to every other jeep. As far as I know, there were none of these in 09.

I can tell you that if you throw on an AEV 2.5" lift, you'll have no rake whatsoever, it will ride smooth as hell, and compared to a spacer lift, it will ride much better. People throw on spacers and to them it rides great, but that's also because they've never experienced the alternative, so they have nothing to compare it to.

A 2.5" lift like the AEV lift will be a bolt-on affair. You won't need anything other than what comes with the kit.
