Please help!...I changed my water pump and put my belt back on...pulled out and the idler pulleys was destroyed. Replaced both idlers, tensioner, and belt. Idled great. Pulled out and bam! The left idler’s plastic melted off the bearing and belt wadded up.

That sounds like the belt is too tight... which should not be the case with these modern auto-tensioners. Sorry, but I have to ask. Are you sure they gave you the right belt? or the idler was broken to start? How hard was it to get on?

Also, what year and trim level of jeep? There were a couple different engines in JKs

It’s a 2015 JKU Sport with a 3.6 the first time it happen was when I reapplied the belt that had been on it. Both belts felt snug. When I compressed the tensioner and slid it on the tensioner didn’t decompress much at all if any.

Did you route the belt correctly?

To clarify the operation.

1. It was running fine, needed a water pump.
2. You removed the belt via the 1/2 socket on the tensioner arm.
3. You replaced the water pump with a new pump.
4. You put the belt on the exact way it came off. (the fun part around the alternator included.)
5. You started the vehicle and the belt exploded?
