I have a 2012 Unlimited Sport w/3.6. I have a simple question. Over the last 24 hrs I smelled burning oil. When I investigated I found oil all over bellhousing of the tranny and none high up on motor. When I removed rubber plugs and took a look at the flywheel everything looked perfectly clean and dry. I had changed my oil several weeks ago with no issues. On a whim I removed my oil filter and sure enough what did I find a missing oil bypass valve and spring. Nothing seems to be broke just missing so probably stuck with old filter or popped out. I'll replace in the morning. I've checked oil level and dont see oil on dipstick so I've lost significant amount of oil. I'm going to drain oil and change part and oil. Here's my question

What symptoms would Jeep have if bypass valve is missing? Would that cause my leak?
