Hi everyone,

Quick rundown on what I'm wheeling:

2013 Wrangler Sport 2Dr 3.6L Auto - Stock save for some aftermarket bumpers and coils from a 4dr Rubi

Issue at hand:
Trans will not shift from second into third and has no selectable function. Also lurches into reverse from park and into drive from neutral.

Few weeks ago I had P0743 TCC code come up. I did some digging and found that the most common problem is the TTC solenoid. I have 137K km on my Jeep and was planning on doing the trans filter and oil change pretty soon anyways, so kind of good timing. When I dropped the pan on the trans the oil that came out was burnt smelling and the magnet in the pan was pretty caked in goop (no large pieces or flakes, just goop). So I purchased a solenoid from the dealership and installed it into the valve body. Reassembled with a fresh filter and some new ATF 4. Took it out for a test spin and still will not shift from second into third.

I talked to several people and a few service departments and was told the following:
Clutches inside could be seized
Valve body could be shot
Torque Converter needs a rebuild

I also seen on a few forums before I got into the repair that people with similar issues had replaced the solenoid and solved the issue and others ended up replacing the torque converter and TC/Trans all together.

So I'm curious if anyone else has had the same or similar issues and what path they went. I'm not about to let a dealership or shop charge me out the wazoo in labour time for this as I can handle the repairs myself. Just looking for some advice on where I should be heading next. At this point the trans is coming out and getting benched so I can start dealing with this.

Thanks for any feedback,

I know someone who had this same issue and he ended up replacing the solenoid and that solved the issue.

I however would probably take it to a reputable transmission shop first and at least pay them to diagnose it, as it could be the torque convertor too.

Hey, was this ever resolved?

I am going through it with this issue myself. I cant find anyone who has successfully changed the solenoids and resolved the issue except for one guy who said he swapped a couple relays and has been fine since.

One thing that you must do is clear the TCM: (before doing this, clear the DTC) Clear the TCM by turning the key to ACC mode, waiting until the check engine light stops blinking, then slowly pressing and depressing the gas pedal. Once done, turn off, then give it a full crank and this resets whatever is caught in the system.

Currently, my mechanic is still trying to pinpoint the issues because at least mine shifts now, but there is power loss and after 10 minutes manual mode is disabled and it's basically not drivable. I'm going to have to check all the fluids to make sure they aren't too high. Next step may be to replace and reprogram the ECU... Im at a loss for what to do.
