I was luckily given my father's older 08 Wrangler that was already pretty done up, the issue with this is I don't want to waste what he has already done. With this, I found a fabricator on Google who said he could make my 2-step tire carrier into a 1-step carrier. When I went there for him to install everything it didn't work. He started cutting many things up saying it would start working afterwards because of some binding issue but it still didn't work. I am worried that he is going to ruin the structural integrity of the carrier and/or rip me off for the additional work he started doing even though we agreed on 250 $ cad for him to make it 1 step. I am pretty sure the issue is in the plate on the tailgate and the plate he made on the carrier being bolted together and not having a rotating rod in between the body of the car and the carrier. If anyone has any experience with a similar issue I would love any advice on how to handle this situation.

Can you post some pics of the project, or maybe a few pre project with some details?

My job is fabrication, I build automated welding and cutting machines but also do a lot of Jeep fabrication on my own rigs. I’ve learned that pics on forums are like gold. It gets people thinking.

I’ll step off my soapbox and let’s see what you’re up against.

This is totally on point! I wouldn't even know where to begin with any suggestions without pictures.
