This is probably a dumb question but how far should the dipstick be inserted to check the transmission fluid level?

Should it be inserted just so it latches into the "normal" position? Or should it be pressed down further as far as it will go? It can be pressed in 1/4" or so beyond the normal running latched position.

While 1/4" is not a lot, the high and low marks on the dipstick are very close together so 1/4" makes a significant difference between it being close to the low mark or close to the high mark.

The owner's manual says to insert it until it is "seated". I would assume this means just until it latches. I have found a couple procedures online that say to insert it as far as it will go until the dipstick bottom out on the pan.

LOL, maybe I am being too OCD about it.... but just want to get the level as accurate as possible.
