It's not a function. It is an indicator only. When you see the green ECO square on your dash, it simply means you are achieving the best possible fuel efficiency. Mine came on Monday evening as I was returning from the coast- I was driving almost 80 and a slight downhill run on the interstate made it come on. I almost laughed out loud knowing the worst possible gas mileage I get is anything over 70 on the highway. It's comical to see when it does come on- sometimes tucked behind a tractor-trailer doing 75 or 80 on the interstate, or going downhill... And never, ever does it come on if you're into a headwind or cross wind or going uphill. I live where my elevation above sea level is 85'. The 3-hour drive to the fam's place on the coast burns 3/4 tank. The exact same route coming home burns a little over 1/2 tank. I dunno. It's a Jeep- just chalk it up to Jeeps being different creatures.
