Help With Door Removal

Hello all.

I have a 2009 JK and would like to remove the doors. there are no hex nuts at the bottom of the bolts
so I can only assume the previous owner has removed them. But the doors aren't budging... easy to open
and close but when I lift up nothing happens. Is there a way to "pry" them up without damaging the bottom
of the door? I'm obviously no mechanic but would appreciate any advice from this wonderful hive mind.

If you can, I would order some new nuts for the doors. They definitely protect the pins from the elements. I left my nuts off for a while and the rain/weather got to my door pins and dried them out, which made them super sticky and hard to lift out.

I ended up spraying a little WD-40 around the pins (from top and bottom), then swinging the door open and closed all the way a few times, to work it in there. Before swinging the doors wide open, I unhooked the straps from the inside and unplugged the door wiring. I wouldn't try to pry on them, because that sheet metal is really easy to bend. But if that's all you're left with, you can always wedge some soft wood or similar material between the step bars and the bottom of the door and lightly nudge them upwards.

Before you mount them back, just lubricate the door pins with a light coating of grease. Makes for a much easier removal next time and keeps things from getting rusty!

However, I can tell you this from having removed many, many Jeep doors. They don't come off easily if they have never been removed or lubed. Unfortunately there is no easy way to get them off, nor is there a real trick. You just have to use a lot of force and put your back into it, and they WILL come off, I promise. Be careful not to bang the hinges against the body when they pop off (as can happen), and once you do get them off, grease the hinge pins so you'll never have an issue getting them off again (y)

Thank you. As you can see from the previous owner I think the mirrors dented the sides when they took the strap off. There is some rust around the car so I'm not surprised I'm having a tough time taking them off. I will get the grease for sure. thanks for the advice.
 
I had same problem a couple months ago. But I had the hex screws on.
I just a rubber mallet on the bottom of the door and after a few upward pops, they started to open up...

Yep, my JK had that same dent, and it occurs when removing the strap and the door flies open and the mirror hits the body. Fortunately a pointless dent guy got mine out really well.
