Gascap light

My son bought a 2014 Jeep and the gascap light is on. I changed the old gas cap, but no luck. Can anyone give me any advice on possible things to look at. Google pointed at replacing cap.

It says Gas cap, but it's really a warning for the entire evaporative system. You need to check the cap, the lines from the gas tank to the cannister and from there to the purge valve. You may be able to see a split hose, or you may need to do a smoke check. That involves pumping smoke into the system and looking to see where it comes out.

Check under the Jeep for any chewed or ripped hoses that goes to the fuel tank.

If the cap is on tight at least a couple clicks then it's probably something simple in the fill or vent tube for the tank. Don't need to be a mechanic to look at hoses.

Got a screwdriver and a pair of pliers? That's about all you need to replace everything in the system...

Mine did that and I put a little Vaseline on the rubber o-ring on the cap. Been good ever since.

Usually when it's an EVAP problem the check engine light will come on..as for the gas cap even though you replaced it the computer will take about 100 miles of driving for it too reset on its on unless you reset it with a plug in scanner also clean the gas cap filler tube with a rag ...good luck

Also I meant too say if the check engine light is on and you put a scanner on and it reads po 442,445,or 456 thats an EVAP code ....gascap is a separate minor issue

Don't do that ....mechanics are like car salesman patting you on the back with one hand and a jar of Vaseline in the other ...your dealing with a minor issue

I found this issue with my evap casiter. The plug must has gotten wet and it was green with corrosion. This picture was after it sat in vinegar for an hour. It's going to be replaced.
