So I’m not a Jeep guy yet...but I’ve acquired an ‘89 wrangler with supposedly a ‘93 Cherokee I6 engine. It wasn’t getting any fuel. Chased it to the fuel pump, pulled the tank and found the entire pump/float/piping rusted away.

The ‘89 wrangler fuel sending unit doesn’t look right but neither does the ‘93 Cherokee unit.

Any info on how to figure out what I need?

I’m a slow responder so please forgive.

You'd probably have better responses over on Chris' other site, https://wrangleryjforum.com/

That said, you should look for the casting number below the distributor and above the oil pan. The casting numbers will be raised or recessed, not stamped.

1. 1st digit - the year (e.g., 4 = 1994)
2. 2nd and 3rd digits - the month (01-12)
3. 4th and 5th digits - the engine type/fuel system/compression ratio
(MX = a 4.0L 8.7:1 compression ratio engine with multi-point fuel injection system).
4. 6th and 7th digits - the day of the month of engine build (01-31).

Year............Casting No
1987-90......53005535 (8933002665)
1991-95......53008405
1996-98......53020569
1999-04......53010449
