2007 Jku with 3” lift and 35s. While wheeling today we were climbing a pretty good hill and my front just stopped pulling. No noise at all just not pulling. My buddy noticed that the front drive shaft wasn’t turning but the rear was still in low gear. Any ideas?

So this is an JKU X? not a rubicon? Are the axels and gearing OEM? If its an X those 35s had to make is a bit of a dog if all OEM gearing of 3.21.

Just tell us as much as you can about what has been done to the jeep to this point. Or if it is all original.

Put it up on a lift or jack stands, put it in 4WD, and press the gas. Have someone get under it and inspect. That's where I would start with this.

Ok so I get up this morning and put it on stands and everything works as it should. So my first thought is that maybe it just didn’t go into 4wd all the way but the rear was still in low gear. But after this hill there were a few mud holes that I went ahead and went in 4 lo for just because 2 hi is so weak and it was only the rear spinning then. Me being pissed and confused this morning I went against my better judgment and hooked it to a tree. All 4 tires dug in hard. Is it possible for the rear to go into low gear but the linkage not move enough at that time (possible stick) to lock the driveshafts?

Yes I know 2 hi is 2wd. It has never had enough torque in 2wd to do anything that’s why I put it in 4low to go through the mud but as I say it was only spinning the rear but was definitely in low gear. I’m just stating everything in hopes that someone has had something similar or has an idea of what may have happened

I'm guessing auto trans. That poor 4 speed 3.8 mix has not been the favorite combination of folks, but it can do the job usually. Put 35"s on it and yep, you are going to need that low gear. It's nice that it has the optional 4.10 gear ratio, makes it more offroadable.

The lack of noise is what is stumping me. I can't image what could happen to the drive train that would not announce itself with gusto.

Have you checked the transfer case fluid level? Might be a good thing to change just in case.

You are probably right on that and yes the lack of noise and the fact that it works now has me stumped. I will definitely check/change the fluid
