Death wobble with a 6 lift

So I have a question for some of you wrangler experts, my Daughter just bought a 2016 wrangler sport with a 6” rough country lift and 35”x12.5 tires on 20” wheels, it has a horrible shake when she hits bumps in the road( not all the time) but when it shakes it really shakes, it has been brought in to a truck place and they put on new stabilizer bars and links in the front, checked alignment and everything else, ball joints, tie rods all check out to be in good shape, has anyone else had this, can anyone give some advise, I’m thinking possibly to much lift or too big of tires , but this can’t be the only wrangler with this set up any help you can give would be much appreciated

Have you tried rotating the front tires to the rear to see if that could help? Is the steering gearbox tight?

With a 6" lift you may need a drop pitman arm. that rim size is to big ( just my opinion ) also check tire air pressure.

Have you checked the torque specs on the the track bar bolts?

Steering stabilizers essentially have nothing to do with death wobble. Sometimes they can mask it, but they are no more of a cure for death wobble than a band-aid is for curing cancer.

Anytime a "mechanic" brings up death wobble and steering stabilizers in the same sentence I instantly know they cannot be trusted.

With that much lift, a lot needs to be done to make it drive right. Are control arms adjustable? Has it had the castor angle checked? Track bar adjustable? Track bar and drag link parallel? Wheel bearings? Not all if this causes death wobble but everything has to play nicely together. I also agree with Chris, anyone suggesting a steering stabilizer to fix the problem is looking for a cheap easy fix.

Thank you for the input, sounds like you have a lot of Jeep experience, can you recommend a good place to bring it in the Muskegon Michigan area?

Hey @Phillycheese, welcome to the forum. Totally agree with @Craig T . Personally, that's why I kept it at 2.5" of lift... less complications.

Two places to check are Neeley's Restoration in Marne and Never Enough Auto in Grant. Both are about 30-40 minutes from Muskegon, I would guess. They both do a lot of Jeep business.

An alternative would be to get on the dreaded FB and join the Grand Rapids Jeep Club FB page and ask for recommendations closer. I don't know of any personally in Muskegon (I'm over by Rockford). Another group to ask would be the Two Trackers Four Wheel Drive Club. I think they are out of Muskegon.

Good luck!

Jerry

Where abouts in West Michigan? I live in Middleville. I hear good things about Jp monkey garage in Hastings, they specialize in jeeps. Cascade 4wd is also supposed to be good. I honestly do all my own work except for tires and alignment.

Thanks jerry appreciate the info, my daughter bought it about 2 months ago and loves it, I figured with the way it was set up would probably have some issues from time to time, but she fell in love with it so you know how that goes but that will give me a good starting point. Thanks again

We are in Muskegon thanks for the info

Had the death wobble start happening on our 2007 after about 60,000 miles. What did the trick was upgrading the ball joints and adding a stabilizer to help with future wear

6” rough country lift and 35”x12.5 tires on 20” wheels,
This just sounds like it's going to be a never-ending process of drive and adjust. Remember having to tweak the Weber or SU carbs on Euro-built cars every time you drove them? That combination of lift and wheel size looks like more trouble than it's worth.
