looking for ideas on cold air intake on my 15 jku sport. ive seen some kits online but their super expensive. Im looking for something more "custom" i guess u would call it . anyone done anything like this on theirs?
Please, please, PLEASE do not waste your money on a "cold air intake".
A cold air intake for your JK will do about as much for the engine as a band-aid will do for curing cancer. I wish people would realize this, but no one seems to get it.
Feeding an engine more air through a higher flow intake will do nothing unless you open up your throttle body, then open up your intake manifold, then open up your cylinder head ports, then open up your valves, and finally open up your exhaust.
Any gains you "think" you see from a cold air intake will be meaningless, as 1-2 HP differences can be chalked up to nothing more than variances in air temperature, altitude, engine temp, type of dyno, etc.
The 3.8 and 3.6 are not engines that have restricted air intakes from the factory, and therefore the addition of an air intake will only be waste of your money, unless you plan on opening up the rest of the engine like I said above.
And before someone says, "ease of cleaning" an aftermarket air filter, are you aware that the K&N style filters actually let more contaminates into the engine than a stock air filter, thus potentially decreasing the life of your engine?
What about MPG? Bullshit. If you're going to claim a MPG increase from an air intake, you're either smoking some real good shit, or you simply don't know how it works. Opening up the air intake is NOT going to increase your MPG beyond the placebo effect (the mind is a powerful tool). Not sure how in the hell this internet rumor bullshit got started, but people have perpetuated it beyond belief, to the point where it's no laughable when someone says, "I installed an air intake and saw an increase in fuel economy." Yeah, right you did buddy!
Guys, come the fuck on. This is literally simple engine building 101. Your engine can't use more air unless you open the whole thing up, not just the intake
Please, for the love of god, DO NOT fall for the cold air intake thing.
Dayum! I believe a nerve was hit! lol. That being said..... I agree 1000% with this. It's simple internet myth that the manu's have capitalized on. That's why EVERYTHING states "Up to...". Kind of like your internet provider!

Chill out - I wonder what kind of motors you built in the past that hits a nerve > Go-Carts?

I’m not looking to do it for hp. I’ve built enough motors to know that. I’m looking for mpgs and mostly I wheel in the desert out in Las Vegas I running though air filters like crazy from the dust. I want a pod type filter so when I’m done wheeling I can just loosen a screw and blow it out wile I’m airing up my tires
Hey leave the guy alone - he built motors and is not looking for hp.You are going to blow it out with compressed air ??
The compressed air tears the fibers of your filter and creates larger holes, for larger particulate to flow into your crank case and upper cyls.
If that’s what you wanna do, you’ll be rebuilding more engines.. it’s your circus..

I do not know where the CAI of this motor, wonder where to hook up the snorkel. Need Jerry B. on this one I think.

See the 3/4" shaft with a 1/8" hole in the middle? Can anyone tell me where the fuel line hooks up ? I wanna run it on propane, so it doesn’t flood when I’m climbing steep grades.
