I need help!!! When I take off in first gear I get a bad pop/clunk noise. It is only when I take off then I don’t hear. Can’t figure out everything seems fine underneath.

Is your vehicle stock? Did this start happening after a lift install or performing some work on the vehicle?

No there really isn’t anything left stock. I had the motor replaced. I have checked every mount though.

It definitely sounds like something is loose. You probably have a lift, so it could be a variety of things, even something associated with your driveshaft. I would initially check anything regarding the suspension that is not stock and make sure all the bolts are to torque specs.

The problem is that this is just too vague to diagnose. There's so many different possibilities, you're just going to have to check them very, very thoroughly. All it takes is something like a track bar, control arm, or something else that isn't torqued exactly to the right spec that can make a noise like this.

I am however betting it involves something not being tightened correctly, especially since it's not stock.

Sorry about not giving a lot of info I just have no idea lol. Yes it’s lifted. I put a new drive shaft in that was after the noise. It seems to be coming from the back of the Jeep.

Oh no, I'm not blaming you at all. I'm just saying that there's so many things it could be.

Like I said though, a noise like that only happens off the line usually means something is loose and so it's preloading. I had a noise like that on my TJ and it turned out to be a control arm bolt that wasn't tightened down enough.

But hell, it could even be a bad u-joint.

You know what would be an interesting test. If you have someone you know with a lift, or jack stands. Get the vehicle up off the ground. Sit under it while someone sits in it off the ground and have them accelerate while you lay under the rear end and look up. See if you can visually identify where the clunking sound is coming from when they do that.

That's literally the first place I would start.
