TPMS troubleshooting dead end

Hi all, I have a 14 JKU that has some TPM issues that I cant seem to get to the bottom of.

Its the premium system, and had been reporting tire pressures reliably till recently when one tire suddenly disappeared (---) which also activates a chime and the flashing/solid low pressure light. Assuming the tire sensor, I had it replaced, but the missing tire just moved to a new location on the dash. I tried rotating next, but the missing tire does not travel with any of the wheels. To rule out incompatibility, I had the other three tire sensors replaced - they were getting old anyhow. So all four are new now and of the same type. With all new sensors, the antenna is picking up pressures in some of the tires. Next suspect was the antenna, the one above the crossmember in the rear. I have more than one JK, so I swapped it out with another. The antenna from my working JK still reports a missing tire, sometimes multiple tires. Wiring next, power and ground (1 and 2) for the antenna is stable and good.

Using JScan I can read tire ID's and have tried entering them manually, resetting the module, entering tire ID's manually, turning the TPM system on and off. Nothing I have done will get the system back to functioning normally.

All thats left that I can think of are the two data wires that run from the antenna to someplace, and then some vague information I have come across here and there online that the premium systems have three additional sensors in or around the wheel wells. I have searched high and low for anything like that and have come up empty.

I know a lot of you will just turn the system off, but I'd rather not. My JKs are used as rental cars, so I'd much prefer it be functional.

The instant you turn on the ignition, you get the Check TPM System error on the dash, so something diagnostic is failing right at startup.

If anyone can shed some light, I'd really appreciate it. My suspicion lies with damage to one or both other wires (3 and 4) running from the antenna, or these possible 3 additional mystery wheel sensors.

A diagram or description as to where these wires go, or information on the location of the additional wheel well sensors would be really helpful, and I'll be sure to post progress as there seems to be more than a few members experiencing the same issue.

Knowing our JK's, I would suspect a bad ground, but your best best is to get a factory service manual from TechAuthority or risk a $20 file from some unknown source on ebay.

Haynes might have wiring diagrams. My local district library has an online Chiltons, but it's not good.

I agree, I found a way to access the Chiltons online, but it just covers the system as a schematic, and didn't offer much in the way of physical locations. And no reference to these mysterious wheel well sensors on the premium systems. I'll look up TechAuthority.

I've heard that a lot, i'd just prefer to use that as the last possible option.

Why? You need the government required nanny aid for what purpose?

Just delete the damn system and be happier because of it. You'll save yourself a lot of money on new TPMS sensors when you get new tires too.

There's every reason to delete it and no reason to keep it.

The reason I mentioned in the original post - this Jeep is one of my rental cars, so putting a guest into them and the first thing they see is Check TPM System every time they start it up, which is there even if I disable the system, is not a very good look.

When you delete the TPMS the light goes out if you use JSCAN.

Let me be sure I'm hearing you right: by "delete" am I correct that you mean turning the system setting to "disabled"? Thats what I have done in JScan while I work through this, and while it does turn off the dedicated light and chime, you'll still get a Check TPM System dash warning and it will default to all tires showing 0 at every startup.

I didn't use JSCAN on mine since I have a Hypertech Programmer and I did it with it, hopefully someone with the JSCAN will chime in.
