I put a new radio in my Jeep. The power stays on indefinitely when the doors are off. When the doors are on, only when I open the driver side door is the power cut off. Recently, the wind blew my driver side door wide open, tore the door safety strap and must have pulled loose or damaged the door wiring because now, even with the door open, the battery stays on indefinitely. I have to pull the battery cables to shut it off. I’m lost as to how to get the battery to shut off when I remove the key.

Since you've had damage from the wind blowing the door open, it's possible that the wiring for that switch has been affected.
Here are a few steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the issue:
- Inspect the door switch for any visible damage or disconnection. It’s usually located in the door frame and should be pressed in when the door is closed. If it’s stuck or broken, it might be keeping the circuit open.
- Look for any signs of damage in the wiring harness connecting the door to the body of the Jeep. You may need to remove some trim to get a better look. If you find damaged wires, they may need to be spliced or replaced. Can't stress this one enough!
- Use a multimeter to test the door switch. When the door is closed, the switch should show continuity. If it does not, replacing it might solve your issue.
- Ensure that the new radio is wired correctly. Double-check any connections that were made, especially grounds and constant power sources. A poorly connected ground can sometimes lead to issues like you’re experiencing.
