Drove wife's JK this past week with icy roads for the first time. When 4WD hi was selected, I got an ESCOFF warning, and the stability icon illuminated. Is this normal? Doesn't do it in LO. Also, engine RPM were up around 4500rpm @ 50mph.

I don't know if it's normal for it to go off when in 4wd but if you've ever had the ESP work like it's supposed to you probably won't like it. Mines disabled so I can control my Jeep and not the Computer.

If you were at 4500 RPM at 50mph you were most likely in 4lo. Which would explain the ESCOFF warning & stability icon

Now that I think about it the ESP gets shut off in low but not in high on the transfercase. You usually don't go that fast on 4 low to cause the rear to fishtail to set off the ESP and you also don't want the ESP on when offroading.

If you press and hold the ESC button for more than five seconds while in 4 Hi, you'll get the ESCOFF message and it's said about 90% of the traction control & ABS will be disengaged
