Turned 51 this past March, and after selling my TJ back in 2006 to get something more spacious and family friendly, I figured it was time again to get the vehicle that "I" wanted. Wife and I divorced in 2021 and the company I work for moved me out to Texas to start a new shop. Divorce was amicable and she is a wonderful woman, but we just grew into different people. She has the kids and I make support a priority and talk to them and video chat with them everyday when possible. Still sucks being apart from them, but sometimes setting the example for them that "You have to live your own life, no matter the cost." is a better parenting model to set for your kids than being miserable and staying because that's what everyone is SUPPOSED to do.
Anyways, traded my 2016 Santa Fe Sport which was a great vehicle, but the Texas roads were hell in the suspension! One day while surfing the net and Jeep dreaming I came across "Dogmeat", a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara, with only 45000 miles on it. It was like lightning or like seeing your first car for the first time. That first love feeling of being behind the wheel of something that just FEELS like you. The purchase process was insanely quick and easy, and waiting for my Jeep to be delivered was just as anxious and nerve-wracking as I was waiting for each of my 4 kids to be born! But watching it being unloaded from the truck and sitting behind the wheel for the first time, was feeling as if I was 16 again, seeing the world new and full of possibilities. But maybe it was change that I needed. To find myself and stop compromising. Don't get me wrong, my kids and my wife were some of the best things that have ever happened to me. But, in the end, kids leave to find their own ways in the world and the reality is I want them to look at dear old Dad and see he is living a happy life doing what he loves to do when he wants to do it. As for the ex, we are still close friends, hard not to be after having 4 crazy kids!
I guess the morale of this story is that its the projects that keep us young and motivated. They give us the reason to get out of bed in the morning (or in the middle of the night to add Jeep parts to your cart on Amazon!
).
