I drive a 2007 jeep jku and have been dealing with an engine tick/ knock for almost a year now. it comes and goes sometimes it is just quiet other times it's loud usualy worse after a long drive but sometimes i dont hear it for a day or two it also comes with a slight rough idle that will slighty drop 50 to 100 rpms. I have replaced my exhaust manifolds, checked my cats, pulled the valve cover, gotten a mopar oil filter and pulled the oil pan I can not figure it out anyone have any suggestions?

Aside from taking it to a shop to get it diagnosed, have you checked the plugs, wires, etc.?

The ticking could come from an exposed plug wire and the drop in RPM might be consistent with the symptoms of it. Keep us posted on what you find out.

How many miles? And if it’s over 100k, do you know if the plugs/wires/coil have been swapped for maintenance?

I replaced the plugs and wires I have not messed with the coil. The jeep also has 130k miles on it. I will see if replacing the coil helps.

Keep me/us posted. I have 128k on my 07 and I replaced the plugs, but not the coil and wires due to time constraints that week. Ran 10x better. Then, I haven't had a chance (procrastinating) to do the wires/ coil yet.

Good luck and hope you find the issue.

I have a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport S, that had the "Tick" first on the passenger side then on the driver's side.

The Ticking is a result of failed lifters & can do real damage to the valves & camshaft the longer you wait to have it fixed.

Fortunately I have an extended warranty & the $4,400, Charge to put in all new lifters, valves & cam shafts only cost me $140.00.

It is like driving a brand new Jeep & purrs like a kitten.

The longer you wait the more damage you will do to the engine & the more you will pay to get it fixed.
