Good money for poor quality

A couple months ago I bought a 2014 Sahara that had a Mopar rear tube bumper, wanting a more stock look I put on a stock rear bumper. Just recently I purchased a Rugged Ridge silver center cover (AKA applique) from ExtremeTerrain to put on the bumper. The fit was okay, a little on the tight side, however the paint job has a long raised shadow in it, the worst paint job I have ever seen (see pictures). Yes, I did look it over when I took it out the box, at first glance I thought the shadow line I was seeing was just that, a shadow. However, after installing (which was done with it face down) the shadow was still there. At that point I ran my hand across it and could actually feel a ridge the length of the shadow.

I have never purchased anything of such poor quality and I have purchased a boat load of car parts over the years from many different vendors for many different vehicles. I have contacted ExtremeTerrain, sent along some pictures in the hope of some type of remedy / compensation. They said they would review it and get back to me. I have already been informed they do not take back installed parts. Okay, I understand that, but really!!! This thing is junk and not cheap junk either. Thanks for taking the time to read my rant. I will add updates when and if I hear back from ExtremeTerrain.

Rant away! It is good to get the angry out of the blood Circa 2020. Now, I have one of those rulers in teak from the 70s when we went Metric, Love math, still have my slide rule some place in case of a EMP blast.

That's bullshit. Hope they pay a body shop to reshoot it or compensate you.

For what it's worth, I think you can get a Duplicolor rattle can spray from O'reilly's or AutoZone that has your same paint code for about$10. Sand it with 600 grit and shoot it yourself with a few light coats, maybe even clear too.

Hopefully, they compensate or send you a new one.

I've learn to live with this type of stuff over the many years. Just one reason I don't do business with several third party vendors. But as said above, I'm handy enough to be able to repaint these types of products or have metal parts set to our powder coaters before anything's been installed on the jeep.

ExtremeTerrain got back to me and offered me three options, return for replacement or refund, a partial refund without returning, or what works out to be a 50% of the product cost store credit. Seeing as to how I have the center bumper piece installed and recycled the box, I opted for the store credit which ended up the greater amount of the two options. I was very pleased to hear back from ExtremeTerrain and given options as to how I wanted to move forward with my request / dispute.

You're lucky as most of the vendors I've had disputes with never followed through.

Got it! Yep, the credit was added to my account, just had to be patient. Now I need to decide what I want to order for my JK Sahara, of course I will spend more then the credit amount. :)

Yep, and companies have learned that. Bad products happen, but sucking up a loss to maintain a customer is usually going to end up in the make more money column.
