Hard top season in NH is here again. I see a white top and I want it painted black

Wife has a 2008 JK with a hard top that I put back on this weekend - it's 70 degrees today, but winter is coming.

We noticed that the soft top, which is black on the inside and outside, was a more comfortable driving experience than the hard top with the bright white interior. It may brighten up the interior, but it also reflects in windshield.

I painted the inside of top flat black around all the edges and windows, then sprayed the larger surfaces with a low-texture truck bed liner. Overall it came out very well and wife is happy.

The rear gas struts were shot, so I ordered new ones and they should be here soon.

Edit - added pics, sorry for delay. Jeep leaves with my wife to school in the AM and comes home in the PM and it's that time of year now when it's dark morning and evening. I painted them flat black and used flat black truck bed liner in the middles. I like the texture of the truck bed liner, but not around the edges where they mate and latch. I used Krylon flat black for the edges and first coat in the middle - dries much much faster than Rustoleum, esp since it's getting cold overnight in the garage.

I removed some sticky foam padding from the corners that cushion the removable parts where they overlap, but I ordered a roll of sticky backed closed cell foam on Amazon and will replace it shortly.

Theme song for the tv series Tour of Duty, and the finish of the movie Full Metal Jacket.

You are right - I'll get some pics and post them shortly. I'll be home tomorrow in the daytime and will try to remember.

Looks good, but with my old eyeballs it is hard to find misplaced Sh- in a dark interior at night without my Maglight.

I'm going to go this route this winter one weekend when I can talk the wife into letting me have the garage for a weekend. I like the idea of a thicker bed-liner type paint. Did it help reduce wind or road noise any?

My JKU is billet gray and I was also considering installing this:

And painting around the edges with a darker gray or black.

Was thinking of those, to boost the R factor in the cab when it is -35 C out. But they were pricey back in the day. Have a 2 door with the 3.8, seems to do trick. But every year it feels colder.
