Wife has a 2008 JK with a hard top that I put back on this weekend - it's 70 degrees today, but winter is coming.
We noticed that the soft top, which is black on the inside and outside, was a more comfortable driving experience than the hard top with the bright white interior. It may brighten up the interior, but it also reflects in windshield.
I painted the inside of top flat black around all the edges and windows, then sprayed the larger surfaces with a low-texture truck bed liner. Overall it came out very well and wife is happy.
The rear gas struts were shot, so I ordered new ones and they should be here soon.

Edit - added pics, sorry for delay. Jeep leaves with my wife to school in the AM and comes home in the PM and it's that time of year now when it's dark morning and evening. I painted them flat black and used flat black truck bed liner in the middles. I like the texture of the truck bed liner, but not around the edges where they mate and latch. I used Krylon flat black for the edges and first coat in the middle - dries much much faster than Rustoleum, esp since it's getting cold overnight in the garage.
I removed some sticky foam padding from the corners that cushion the removable parts where they overlap, but I ordered a roll of sticky backed closed cell foam on Amazon and will replace it shortly.
